Mayor's Green Procurement Code Awards 2011

Each year the Mayor of London’s Green Procurement Code holds an awards ceremony to recognise London organisations that have addressed environmental issues in their supply chains.

In 2011 the Green Procurement Code linked with the BASE London event for the celebration of achievements.

The Code has been helping businesses to reduce their environmental impact through responsible purchasing for 10 years and during that time over 800 organisations from the public, private and third sectors have received practical advice and used the online resources to help them to embed sustainable purchasing into their policies and practices.  

Members of the programme, delivered by LRS Consultancy, are awarded with Bronze, Silver or Gold certification, depending on their performance in green procurement, and these achievements are rewarded at our annual awards ceremony. 

In his presentation to the winners Martin Powell, the LDA 's Environmental Director, said that Mayor Boris Johnson has stated that the Code has played an important role in ‘ensuring that London has the most competitive business environment in the world’ and investing in London’s low carbon future by ‘helping London to become a world leading, low carbon capital.’

As responsible procurement has gained momentum and organisations are adopting good practice as part of their ‘business as usual’ routines there is no longer a need for the programme to receive support from the public purse. However the Mayor’s endorsement of the programme continues to attract organisations to become members of the scheme, as a means to reduce costs within their business, illustrate their green commitment and show support for Mayoral strategies. 

The standard of entries was extremely high this year, so for each category the judges shortlisted organisations that were highly commended as well as the overall winners. 

LRS and the Mayor's Green Procurement Team would like to thank all the participants for their hard work and continued commitment to the programme, to driving on going improvements in their organisation, and to especially congratulate all those who achieved bronze, silver and gold certification.
